Executive Board Applications

Attention Leaders:

Interested in serving on our 2013-2014 executive board? This is a great way to be a more active member of the CU and Boulder community while utilizing the many skills you have learned as a Communication Major! Submit your resume and Statement of Purpose to etaphihonors@colorado.edu by April 4th, 2013 to be considered!

Executive Board Responsibilities: 

a) Board members shall occupy their position for one year, unless elected and appointed to the position for an additional term 

b) Board members shall operate as a cohesive body, adopting and performing an attitude of care and collaboration for one another and for LPE as a whole 

c) Board members shall perform the duties pertaining to their specified positions, in addition to maintaining the academic membership requirements that are applied to all LPE members 

d) Board members shall attend and provide insight on LPE events/activities, Society meetings, and Board meetings. Including contribution to Eta Phi Advice Forum 

Eligibility: All Executive Board candidates must meet standards for and be accepted into Lambda Pi Eta membership. 

Application Process: Prospective candidates must create an application file consisting of a Resume and a Statement of Purpose document stating the following: 

(a) The officer position of interest 

(b) The reasoning why this particular position is being sought for 

(c) The qualifications that would fulfill the role of the position 

(d) A second-preference position if not accepted for the first position ofinterest

2nd Meeting of 2013

Hi Eta Phi-ers!
Our second meeting of the semester is this Wednesday February 27th starting at 4pmin Hellems Room 267 and there are a a lot of reasons why it is important for you to attend. Here are a few ...

First, our Comm Career & Grad School Night is just a couple weeks away March 13th at 5pm and we have some important updates to go over.

Second, the Rocky Mountain Communication Association (RMCA) Conference is coming up and we still need help organizing.

Third, we need to get ready for the Spring Teaching Awards ceremony!

And fourth, we will be distributing applications for next years Eta Phi executive board. 

We have had a great first half of the semester and we want to keep it going so bring yourselves and your great ideas and we will see you on Wednesday! Also remember to bring any friends interested in Eta Phi.

New Year, New Goals!

As the start of spring semester is approaching us, many of us look for ways to do even better than we did in 2012. If you are looking to boost your GPA or just be an all around ‘better’ student, follow these helpful tips for student success offered to us by St. Johns University.

1. Attend your classes. Remember in the words of Woody Allen 'Seventy percent of success in life is showing up'.
   
2. Know your faculty. Make sure you know who your teachers are, when their office hours are and how to contact them.
   
3. Make sure the faculty knows you. Sit in the front of the classroom. Participate in class discussions. Consult with your teachers during office hours.
   
4. Use a daily planner. Note the dates of exams, assignments, term papers, etc.
   
5. Be organized. Prioritize your responsibilities. Manage your time. Remember everyone has the same 168 hours a week, only some of us use them better than others.
   
6. Know your campus resources. Visit your Academic's Dean Office regularly. Become familiar with the services and programs offered by the Counseling Center, The Freshmen Center, the Career Center, the Campus Ministry Office and the Student Life Office.
   
7. Take care of you health. Get enough sleep. Eat well-balanced meals. Exercise regularly. Make informed and mature decisions about alcohol, sex and drugs. Visit the Health Office as needed.
   
8. Work only as necessary. Try not the exceed 20 hours during a school week. If possible, work on campus. Apply for financial aid and loans if you need them. Manage your expenses very carefully.
   
9. Get involved in campus activities. It will help you learn valuable skills, expand your social network and enhance your self-confidence. Seek out opportunities to apply what you learn in the classroom.
   
10. Keep your eyes on the prize. Clarify your goals. Know why you are in college in the first place. Visualize your success on a daily basis.

Whether you are asking yourself this question or you are hearing it from various friends and family, the question remains. What DO you do with a communication degree? Take a look at some of these blogs and sites who look further into this question. Communication is a valuable and beneficial area of study. Be active in exploring the different fields and areas of interests to see where you might go, after graduation.
